Äänestykseen saivat osallistua JJA:n jäsenet eli jazzin ammattitoimittajat.
Tämän 16. JJA Jazz Awards Winnersin tulokset julkistettiin gaalatilaisuudessa New Yorkissa 20.6.2012. Suurimman potin kaappasi Sonny Rollins kolmella sarjavoitollaan.
Tulokset ovat sinänsä mielenkiintoiset, sillä ne poikkeavat esim. Jazz Insiden vastaavasta voittajien osalta aikalailla. Onkin mielenkiintoista huomata, kuinka journalistit kategorioivat jazzmaailmaa erilailla kuin laajemmat jazzpiirit.
